Just A Chat – Knitting Queen

Okay, maybe not a knitting queen. I wouldn’t even say that I am that great at knitting. BUT, I am very much enjoying knitting!

So I thought it was time for another Just A Chat post, because I haven’t done on in so long! I just want to talk about what I’ve been up to lately, but mainly about some things I’ve been loving over the past few months. And way longer actually, I’ve been on this particular knitting kick on and off for maybe a year now.

Last week I already showed you the scarf I knitted myself, which I am very proud of. I told you how I’d been looking for a looooong scarf for a while, one that I could wrap around my neck a million times and then tie it and just be all warm and cozy, but I couldn’t find anything I liked (or anything really long in general) so I decided to knit one myself. Well, that’s where the hobby started. I went to Zeeman to buy the yarn for my scarf and saw that they had sooo many more colours and textures of yarn for so cheap. The one I used for the scarf is a tweed I think, and was €2,00. I used about 4 balls to get my desired length. But then I couldn’t stop myself from buying more yarn, just in case I wanted to knit some more. So far, with the same pink tweed wool (it’s not actually wool though, most is acrylic or a wool/acrylic blend) I’ve knitted a headband and I am working on a beanie/pompom hat as well (I need some more wool for that though).

But I didn’t just buy the pink tweed stuff. Oh no, I fell in love with that light grey colour that you can see in the header. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it, but I just had to get some. It is so soft and so pretty. AND THEN Zeeman came out with that burned red colour and I needed it in my life. I actually want to try to knit a sweater with it soon (I just need to figure out how to actually knit a sweater), but my new knitting project is actually a very fun one: I am knitting a blanket. It is going to be 2 colours – but maybe 3 – in total: the light grey for the most part with a square of darker grey in the middle. I also saw a different shade of light grey that I might incorporate in the blanket as well if they still have it/if it looks nice. I was actually first thinking of doing a red/grey blanket, but when I knitted the first square of red I decided I didn’t actually love the colours together and thus took it all out again.
Anyways, the blanket is build up out of smallish squares that I am sewing together (still need to practice the sewing a bit) until it all comes together in one giant soft cozy blanket. It’s a bit of work, but it’s just a fun activity to do when I’m watching a show or some YouTube videos, or just when I want something to do. I also find knitting so relaxing. It’s just something I don’t really have to think about, I can just do it, you know. It’s a fun project. And it is stopping me from buying more scarfs, blankets and hats, because it’s so much more fun to make them myself.

I’m not saying that I am super great at it, I really only use one stitch, the most basic one. But I’m enjoying it and that’s all that matters, right? I might pick up a book though with different patterns so I can actually learn how to knit different things, because I feel like the internet is kind of lacking good easy to understand knitting tutorials. But for now I am happy with what I can do so far.

What else have I been up to? I’ve been sick 2 times in the last 2 months, which really sucks. And this last time (I’m still kind of feeling not well) G has been sick as well, so there was no one to care for me! Luckily he got it a little before I did, so when I got really ‘I can’t do anything’ sick he could kind of make tea and stuff. Now he’s mostly all better, just got a nasty cough (although I also blame that one on the fact that he smokes) and I’m still a bit snotty, and low on energy. Also, my throat hurts a bit. But we’re getting back to normal!

Another creative thing, I’ve been making my friend’s curtains. She just moved, found out how freaking expensive those things are, and I offered to make them for her because I made ours a few years ago and they turned out relatively well. So for the past few months I’ve been doing that. I’ve been lacking a bit on the curtain making front though for the past few weeks as I’ve been sick, busy and a bit overwhelmed with life and everything, but I plan on getting back into it soon.
I’m also still enjoying my Bookstagram account, which really motivated me to read, as well as my main Instagram account. Although I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired on the photo taking front, but I’m getting back into that one as well. I just always feel waaay more inspired when we’re in Delft, and since we haven’t been in Delft for 2 weekends now I haven’t known what to shoot. Also, again, sick and busy. But I am going to see if G wants to help me with some photos this weekend (it’s Saturday as I’m writing this).

Ooh, an exciting thing: we might be buying a new TV on Tuesday, which is today when this goes up! I’ve been wanting one for a while now. The one we have is a hand-me-down from my mother-in-law, it is small and sweet and worked fine for the first year that we’ve had it, but since maybe 6 months the lighting has been off. Sometimes it goes really dark and then it’s hard to see what’s happening on the show/film/whatever we’re watching. So we’ve been going into our local electronics store a few times now just to look at what they have, and last time we were there they had a 32 inch one – which is a lot bigger than the one we have now – that is full HD and also quite affordable, and we decided that we wanted it. It was sold out that day, but they will be coming back in stock on Tuesday probably, and we’ll get an e-mail when they are and then we’ll race to the store to pick it up. I am so excited. At first I was a little on the fence about getting a much bigger TV than the one we have now, because I like how ours is not taking over the room, but they just don’t sell any full HD ones in a smaller size it seems, and the one we might be getting is really nice. So I don’t mind it that much.

Okay, I’ve been chatting for a lot longer than I though I would, but it’s nice to do these every once in a while, and just write down everything that comes to mind. If you’ve actually made it this far, hey 😉 ❤

Thanks for stopping by ❤
