You guys, I’ve been good with reading this month! Again! Yay!
Yes, I bought a lot of book, but I also read a fair amount as well. I don’t know if it’s the colder weather, the Bookstagram that’s motivating me to read or just the fact that I have a lot of books I am excited about, but I worked my way through another 4 books since I did my September Reading Wrap-Up.
Wicked Business & Wicked Charms – Janet Evanovich
“When Harvard University English professor and dyed-in-the-wool romantic Gilbert Reedy is mysteriously murdered and thrown off his fourth-floor balcony, Lizzy and Diesel take up his twenty-year quest for the Luxuria Stone, an ancient relic believed by some to be infused with the power of lust. Following clues contained in a cryptic nineteenth-century book of sonnets, Lizzy and Diesel tear through Boston catacombs, government buildings, and multimillion-dollar residences, leaving a trail of robbed graves, public disturbances, and spontaneous seduction.”
“Murdered and mummified more than ninety years ago, bootlegger Collier “Peg Leg” Dazzle once found and re-hid a famous pirate’s treasure somewhere along the coast of New England. A vast collection of gold and silver coins and precious gems, the bounty also contains the Stone of Avarice — the very item reluctant treasure seeker, Lizzy Tucker, and her partner, Diesel, have been enlisted to find. While Lizzy would just like to live a quiet, semi-normal life, Diesel is all about the hunt. And this hunt is going to require a genuine treasure map and a ship worthy of sailing the seven seas . . . or at least getting them from Salem Harbor to Maine.”
I finished the series so far and I am ready for more. Yes, I liked book 2 and 3 as well, two 3 star reads for me. This book series is just so easy to read and fun. Definitely not amazing literary works but enjoyable and I will keep reading the books that are hopefully coming out in the future, because I want to know what happens to the characters. I thought I already read Wicked Business, the second book, but it turns out I hadn’t which made it extra fun. Wicked Charms was the first book in this series that actually made me a little uncomfortable at times because I could totally see Lizzy, the main character, do something really stupid and I actually felt for her. And there is a little more happening between Lizzy and Diesel, which I am also enjoying.
What I like about the series is that there is the main bad guy Wulf (who is actually kinda cool and I might have a villain crush on him), and then with every book there is also an additional bad guy who is just there for that book. I feel like it makes it a bit more interesting. Yes, I like this series.
On Chesil Beach – Ian McEwan
“It is July 1962. Edward and Florence, young innocents married that morning, arrive at a hotel on the Dorset coast. At dinner in their rooms they struggle to suppress their private fears of the wedding night to come.”
This is a very different read for me, but I actually flew through it and finished it in about a day and a half (I was sick one of those days so I had a lot of time on my hands). What I loved about this book is that there is the present time and then the history of both the characters – how they met, how they fell in love, but also how they lived before they met each other. It’s a short book but it is also just a quick read, and the story felt kind of relatable, even though I have never been in a similar situation. One thing I did miss in the book is more for Florance’s perspective towards the end, I would’ve loved to see a bit more of her there. But all in all a very pleasant, surprising read, and therefor I gave it 4 stars.
Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone – J.K. Rowling
I mean, what can I say about this book. It is a classic and I’ve loved rereading it. I don’t know what it is, but this autumn I’ve just been in the mood for Harry Potter and I’ve actually never reread all the books. I think the last time I got stuck halfway through the second one. But now I am determent to read them all in the next few months, I’ve collected all the English books from my mom’s house and gave them a nice little spot on my bookshelves (where they are taking up a lot of space that I don’t have, lol) and I’m now already about 50 pages into the second one, which I am enjoying so far. I’ve also recently picked up a DVD box with all 8 movies in it and I am going to watch 4-8 when I’ve read the books (I couldn’t stop myself from watching the first three). I am so excited. I’ve been watching interviews with the cast and everything to get in the mood already. Anyways, 5 star read for me.
Aaaand those were the 4 books I’ve read in October, very nice if I do say so myself. This puts me on 20 books this year, 5 more than my Goodreads goal already! I am hoping to stick to this reading kick for the rest of this year!
Thanks for stopping by ❤
