A Piece Of Home #1

(No, not my house, just a pretty picture)

I have been living in this apartment for almost 2 months now, and in those 2 months I have been going back and forth on whether I wanted to do a sort of finished apartment tour, showing you the different rooms and how we decorated and furnished the house. But as I was trying to take some pictures and see how it would all work out, I just decided that it didn’t really work in picture form for me. So I came up with a new plan.

I am just going to show you some favourite things in my house, little decorations, storage ideas, all that stuff. And then in another post I will share some more, and then in another post I might show you a bigger part of our living room or bedroom, something like that. And that way I am still sharing my home with you all, and more importantly, my love for decorating. But it is just a bit easier.

So let’s get into the first 5 things I wanted to how you.

Books as decorations

I love books, and I have quite a few of them. Some are just regular boring paperbacks (who am I kidding, books are never boring), and some are prettier, more decorative. And for a while I didn’t really know where to put these, because the bigger ones don’t fit on my shelves. But then I thought ‘I’ve got these pretty books, I’ve got this heavy Buddha, and I have an empty space by my window. Why not put them together?’ So I did, and I think it looks so good! Also, it makes for more space on my bookshelves for more new books ;).

Wine bottle candle holders

I am a sucker for pretty, cute, or funny wine bottles, but after I drink the wine I never know what to do with them. I don’t wanna throw them away, because they are too cute, but what do you need empty wine bottles for? Well, put some candles in there! I think it looks really nice, it is a good way to recycle, and it gives me a reason to buy more wine ;). I actually wanted the candles to slowly be covered in candle wax, but my candles don’t seem to want to drip. Might need different candles. Also a cute idea: put flowers in those wine bottles if you’re not really into candles. And surround them with fairy lights.

A basket for blankets

I have so many little throw blanket things. I like to snuggle up on the couch with a blanket keeping me warm. Use them as background for Instagram and blog pictures. But where do I keep all of my blankets when I don’t use them? Why not in a cute little basket? So I got one. It perfectly fits all my blankets, and looks really cute next to our couch. It is easy to open, and a nice little extra surface to put stuff on. Nice and neutral, just how I like it.

Perfume on display

Between the two of us my boyfriend and I have a lot of perfume, as you can see. And most perfumes come in pretty bottles. And it would be a shame to hide them away in some dark place. So I put them on display on this open shelve in our bedroom, so we can always see them and easily pick a scent for the day, and also it just looks so cute!

Candle holders as storage

Another recycling decor idea. I love candles and pretty candle holders and when a candle is all burned out I don’t want to just throw it all away so I always try to find a way to re-use them. The owl I got with a scented candle from Primark, and I am now using it to store my hair clips and hair bands and those little things. The Zara candle smelled so good, and now the giant holder is perfect for putting nail polishes on display. Paired with my little jewelry tray it looks oh so pretty on my vanity.

I hope you enjoyed this first installment of my A Piece Of Home series.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to see you next week for a new post.
